On Thursday, 30th January, Youth Association DRONI held a workshop on European Values, exploring fundamental principles such as freedom, democracy, equality, human dignity, rule of law and human rights. Using non-formal education methods, participants actively engaged in discussions, activities, and reflections on the role these values play in their lives and societies.
We started with a dynamic warm-up, where participants positioned themselves along a spectrum ranging from agreement to disagreement in response to statements about European values. This exercise led to thought-provoking discussions on freedom of speech, equality, democracy, and the rule of law, highlighting diverse perspectives and personal reflections. The discussions allowed participants to challenge their own assumptions and better understand different viewpoints.
After quickly discussing what European values are according to the EU and where they stem from, in the next segment, participants worked in small groups to explore these values. Using handouts, they discussed the historical development, meaning, and real-life implications of each value, deepening their understanding of how these principles shape European societies. Their results were then presented to the group with the help of a prepared flip chart.
The final section of the workshop involved examining real-world scenarios where European values were either upheld or challenged. In small groups, participants debated ethical dilemmas, discussed decision-making processes, and reflected on the importance of safeguarding democratic principles in everyday life. These case studies helped bridge theoretical knowledge with practical applications, making the learning experience more impactful.
By the end of the workshop, participants had gained a deeper understanding of European values and their historical development. Engaging discussions helped them explore different perspectives, sharpen their critical thinking, and reflect on their role in upholding democratic values within their communities.Â
We hope to see you at the next workshop!
