Get Ready Workshop: Gender-Based Stereotypes

Posted on 27 May at 10:04 am

In our recent workshop on gender stereotypes, participants engaged in a thoughtful exploration of how stereotypes shape perceptions and behaviors in society. The session began with a discussion on what gender stereotypes are and how they manifest in everyday life. We identified common stereotypes and explored how they can be limiting or harmful.

A key activity involved participants creating drawings to visually represent what gender stereotypes might look like when imposed on individuals. This creative exercise sparked powerful conversations about how these stereotypes affect people’s identities, choices, and self-worth.

We then moved into a “Truths vs. Myths” segment, where we critically examined common gender-based assumptions, distinguishing fact from fiction. This led to a deeper understanding of how ingrained and misleading some beliefs can be.

Finally, we discussed the broader societal impact of gender stereotypes, including how they influence relationships, career opportunities, mental health, and equality. Participants shared personal insights and reflected on ways to challenge and reduce the influence of stereotypes in their own lives and communities
