Get Ready Workshop: Media Literacy and Disinformation

Posted on 20 May at 6:33 am

The workshop on the 6th of May began with a short introduction round, where participants shared their names. To energize the group and begin exploring the theme, a light interactive activity — “Never Have I Ever” (Media Literacy Edition) — was conducted. Participants took a step forward if they had done things related to media habits and fake news, setting a relatable and reflective tone.

Following the activity, the facilitator introduced the concept of media literacy and explained the definition and importance of recognizing fake news. Participants explored different types of misinformation, supported by real-life examples.

The core of the session featured a Fact-Check Challenge, where participants analyzed several headlines and had to determine their credibility, identify the type of misinformation and explain the clues that helped them decide.

After Fact-Checking challenge, participants engaged in discussion about the most controversial statements about Medialiteracy and fake news. The opinions were diverse causing the energy levels and engagement to be heightened.

In the final activity, participants were split into two groups. One group presented real news disguised as fake, while the other presented famous fake news story with background sources and evidence. This allowed both teams to critically analyze and reflect on how easily misinformation can be misjudged.

The workshop concluded with a short reflection on the importance of verifying information and becoming responsible digital citizens.
