Last week our volunteer Janosch held a workshop on the topic of creative writing. Read our report to see how it went!
Janosch started off by having all the participants, including himself, embarrass themselves a little bit: As an icebreaker, everyone had to do a speaking game with a breadstick between their teeth at all times. The point of that, he explained, was to create an environment, where silly things are welcome and any creative input can be voiced, no matter how “bad” it might seem. Or as he put it:
“Don’t judge me for how bad my bad ideas are, but for how good my good ideas are.”
Next, we were encouraged to think outside the box for a brainstorming activity and learned how to use metaphors to put our experiences into words. There was even time to talk about some principles of comedy to make your words to sound more light-hearted and funny. We’ll see you on the next one!
