On the 14th of May, we hosted our first ever Girl’s Day event at Ponichala Youth Center ფონიჭალის ახალგაზრდული ცენტრი!
After already hosting an event at the Droni office on March 8th, we continued our series as a #Dronichala event. Our event was all about female empowerment and good vibes. After starting off with a small introduction, we did our human bingo energizer.
Here, we had the chance to learn more about each other and get to know each other. It came as no surprise that a lot of our participants had read a book by a feminist author before or had scored a goal in a football game, but we learnt that some had hiked for over two days straight before!
After our energizer, we had an intriguing discussion about statements related to feminism and equality where girls could freely share their experiences. On one end of the room, we had a sign that stated “Yes”, opposite of that was a “No” sign. After we read a statement, girls could stand on opposite ends of the room to indicate whether they agree or disagree with said statement.
We talked about different societal expectations for boys and girls, beauty standards, how teachers treat pupils differently and more. Everyone was keen to share their opinion. While our participants had differing opinions, exactly this made our discussion so thrilling to follow. It was amazing to see how much knowledge about the topic all attendees already have. A big thank you to all our participants for giving so much input and motivation.
We finished our event by crafting our own bracelets and stickers to have a small souvenir from our event.
All in all, the event was a great success. It may have been our first Girl’s Day at Ponichala, but it definitely wasn’t our last.
