This weekend, the Youth Association Droni organized a unique event for the „Earth Day“. We wondered how we can contribute to making our earth a cleaner and greener place. Our idea was born because we wanted to spend a day picking up trash and cleaning the beach of Tbilisi Sea, while enjoying some time outside with friends.
With the help of our network we could animate a group of young, motivated volunteers to clean the space together. Thanks to the municipality we got trash bags, gloves and sticks for the cleaning activity. Although they have a great team of workers, it is just impossible to always maintain the whole area around the sea clean. That was why we thought about supporting them for one day.
As soon as everybody arrived at the area close to Gina Aquapark, we started picking up trash for a couple of hours. It made us aware of how hard this work is and of the damage that trash causes in nature. Every bottle, every plastic bag and every packaging that is thrown in nature, is one too much. Not only the ground itself, but also the animals suffer from that. It made us sad to see how humans can destroy the beauty of our planet so fast easily.
After only a few hours we had already picked around 30 bags of trash. Everybody was extremely engaged and motivated. We are very thankful for every helping hand and proud of this amazing group.
As a reward for our hard work, we enjoyed a little picnic and the sunset in the late afternoon. Of course we watched out to use as little plastic as possible and leave no trash behind. We ate some fruits as well as self made snacks and drank water from our reusable bottles. During the picnic, we had an interesting exchange and were able to discuss the differences concerning environmental issues around Europe.
Thanks to our volunteer Chiara we even had an amazing DJ from Belgium, Max, who played incredible music for us. It was a very enjoyable, but at the same time instructive experience that taught every single one of us a lot. We are looking forward to having similar activities in future.
